The Grow Your Own (GYO) Scholarship offers financial support to resident/s of the Central Highlands, Huon Valley, and Tasman communities, to undertake health related training/study from a recognised training/educational organisation, with a total value of up to $20,000 available per eligible LGA.

Primary Health Tasmania is currently working collaboratively with health providers, consumers, and other key stakeholders in three Tasmanian regions: Central Highlands LGA, Huon Valley LGA (focusing on the southern region) and Tasman LGA, to better understand and address identified local primary health needs. Health workforce recruitment, retention and primary care access have been identified as key priorities in each region as well as in broader commentary both at state and national levels.

This scholarship aims to support local health workforce development and increase the number of active primary health care professionals in the Central Highlands, Huon Valley, and Tasman LGAs with the long-term objective of improving access to primary care for residents living in these regions, supporting a sustainable model of care. Health workers who reside in one of the three LGAs identified and are employed in an eligible health-related industry or workforce have the opportunity to apply for the GYO Scholarship.

The eligible study opportunities for this scholarship are based on the agreed health priorities for these regions which are drawn from Primary Health Tasmania’s regional population health planning process and have been decided in conjunction with key local stakeholders and clinical working groups. All studies must be commenced by June 2024.
